Seton Medical Center and Cogent Team Up to Develop Unique Hospitalist Services

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Cogent Healthcare today announced a new hospital medicine affiliation with Seton Medical Center, a 375-bed hospital located in Daly City, Calif., and the Daly City Hospitalist Medical Group, an existing Seton physician group, to develop a distinctive hospitalist care delivery system.

“We’re excited about this unique opportunity which brings together a distinguished hospital, a well-established physician practice and Cogent’s care model,” said Ron Greeno, M.D., co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Cogent Healthcare.  “The challenges of the unique care setting and physician community require a creative collaborative solution, where together with each of us, we can collectively demonstrate value.”
Seton Medical Center is a member of the Daughters of Charity Health System and is committed to serving the health care needs of the entire community with a special concern for assuring access to healthcare for the poor.  Seton has been recognized as one of America’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, and as one of the top 100 hospitals for its cardiovascular services, general acute and specialty services.

“We recognized a need for a new approach to hospitalist services,” said Lorraine P. Auerbach, FACHE, president and Chief Executive Officer of Seton Medical Center.  “We found an approach that utilized our existing physician relationships, pairing them with the additional expertise of Cogent’s care delivery model, to achieve a greater positive impact and quicker integration across a broader spectrum of the care continuum.”

“This is a unique project finally uniting physicians and their hospital in a true partnership to provide the best possible and most efficient care,” said Dr. Irwin Shelub, president of the Daly City Hospitalist Medical Group.

With strategic hospital affiliations throughout the U.S., Cogent has proven experience developing a broad array of highly successful hospital medicine programs.  Common among all programs, and a key value driver for Seton and the Daly City Hospitalist Medical Group, is Cogent’s System of Care that uniquely aligns all parties around the hospital’s quality goals.

“For more than 100 years, the Daughters of Charity and Seton have strived to meet the healthcare needs of its communities,” said Jim Panoff, Chief Development Officer of Cogent Healthcare.  “As healthcare has evolved, likewise Seton’s delivery of care continues to evolve.  We are pleased to be selected to contribute to Seton’s commitment to excellence in patient care.”
