President and Chief Executive Officer
Joanne Allen joined Seton Medical Center and Seton Coastside as President & CEO in April 2013. Prior to Seton, Allen served as President & CEO of Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy. Since 2008, she led initiatives to improve financial, quality, and service outcomes at this 93-bed South County facility. Allen succeeded in improving medical staff, associate and community relationships and led the development of a regional strategy for two medical campuses: Gilroy and Morgan Hill.
Most recently, Allen led Saint Louise Regional Hospital in the successful implementation of an electronic medical record with the replacement of multiple systems: patient record, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, registration, patient financial services, case management and health information management. She also spearheaded the development and implementation of the hospital’s stroke program, established an Urgent Care Center and expanded other programs such as Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine.
Allen joined Saint Louise Regional Hospital directly from O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, California, where she held the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Strategic Officer role. During her tenure at O’Connor Hospital, Allen drove initiatives to improve patient care, quality and safety outcomes with O’Connor Hospital participating in Leapfrog, Institutes for Healthcare Improvement, CHART and the CMS demonstration project. She facilitated leadership development within the medical staff, strengthening medical group relationships and creating partnerships through engaging physicians in board committees and process improvement teams. Additionally, Allen drove the completion of major facility projects to enhance revenue.
Allen, a resident of Los Gatos, California, holds a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, both from San Jose State University. Allen is a graduate of the Sacramento-based Ministry Leadership Program for executives in Catholic health care. She served as Chair and Board Member of the California Hospital Association CEO Council, and was recognized in 2011 as a “health care hero” and in 2012 as a “woman of influence” by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal.
