President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Ernie Wallerstein joins Daughters of Charity Health System (DCHS) with a track record of success that combines business acumen with an innovative and creative spirit. Prior to DCHS, Mr. Wallerstein served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of San Jose Medical Group (SJMG), an integrated multi-specialty medical group with multiple clinics located in and around San Jose. During his tenure with SJMG, Mr. Wallerstein led the organization to success in all aspects – from operations to finance, budgeting and equipment acquisition. Prior to his CEO role at SJMG, Mr. Wallerstin served as SJMG’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Vice President of Managed Care where he was responsible for all negotiations with HMOs, PPOs, physicians, hospitals and ancillary service providers. As CIO, Mr. Wallerstein set and led the medical group’s electronic health care strategy.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Wallerstein’s entrepreneurial strength led him to serve as Vice President responsible for the sales and marketing of Quest Vision Systems, a start-up venture involved in the development of one of the first optical scanner and image digitizing systems in the market. Prior to Quest, Mr. Wallerstein was Director of Sales and Marketing for Dahlgren Control Systems, a company that developed one of the first micro-processor driven business applications in the world.
Mr. Wallerstein speaks frequently on the national and local level and has served on the boards of several organizations, including the California Association of Physician Groups and the California Department of Managed Health Care Financial Solvency Standards Board. Mr. Wallerstein holds a Bachelor of Science degree in History from Ohio State University.
