Vice President, Quality

Dr. Klaeveman has returned to work with the Daughters of Charity hospitals after an eight-year hiatus during which he served as Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer for Catholic Healthcare West Bay Area Region for five years, and most recently at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital. As a Senior Director at Saint Francis, Dr. Klaeveman, a board certified gastroenterologist, was responsible for quality and care management including palliative care, case management, HIV care, risk, compliance, infection control, clinical research and the hospitalist program.

Prior to 1997, he practiced gastroenterology at Seton Medical Center (a member of the Daughters of Charity Health System) where he served as Chief of Staff from 1992-1996. In his role with the Daughters, Dr. Klaeveman will develop systems and procedures for quality, service and patient safety across the organization. He will work collaboratively with the Daughters of Charity hospitals' medical staffs on the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of a Quality and Patient Safety Strategy, and he will provide advice and consultation on a variety of clinical and care management issues.

Dr. Klaeveman received his Bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, from Southern Methodist University and his MD from Southwestern Medical School, where he was awarded the Ho Din medal for outstanding graduate. He completed his internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, served two years as a Clinical Associate at the National Institutes of Health, and completed his training at UCSF. At UCSF, he was Chief Resident in Medicine, then fellow in Gastroenterology.
